A Moving Mesh Approach for Flow Simulations of an Oscillating Hydrofoil

ux_t0.5

• Investigated the feasibility of using dynamic mesh approach to simulate oscillating hydrofoil motion in Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) model
• Implemented direct numerical simulation, used PISO algorithm and PimpleDyMFoam solver to conduct the CFD simulation in OpenFOAM
• Post-processed the CFD simulation results using Tecplot and ParaFoam
• Validated the results (i.e. flow fields, vortex formation and lift and drag forces) obtained using the dynamic mesh method with the well-validated results obtained using non-inertial reference frame method
• Studied the effect of mesh resolution on the results obtained using dynamic mesh method
